Mr. Evans has over 49 years’ experience in Global, Emerging and Frontier Markets, and a rich career history where he assumed senior management levels. He was Vice President at Chase Manhattan Bank (now J.P. Morgan Chase) and deputy Managing Director of Stanbic Africa (subsidiary of Standard Bank of South Africa) responsible for 16 banks in Africa and one in London. He successfully introduced fund management capabilities in many of the 16 banks and established Standard Bank Mauritius to improve management of hard and local currency balances and liquidity management. He was Chair of 5 banks in Africa and currently Chair of a NBFI in South Africa and oil companies in Angola and Dubai.
He has board member experience spanning 35 years. He has held 16 Non-Executive Director (NED) positions, 3 as Chairman, 7 as an executive director/managing director as well as committee memberships, including TCX a $3bn Fund which is owned by major global Development Finance Institutions, including World Bank, DIFD (UK), FMO (Holland), DEG/KFW (Germany) and Proparco (France). He has successfully handled 34 Merger and Acquisition transactions with a value of circa $460m and raised more than $18bn in debt and equity finance for various clients.
He restructured and redirected a sustainable town in Namibia adhering to most of the UN ESG principles – which included providing accommodation and health care for the elderly.
As Chair of Mazwe Financial Services Ltd, South Africa a non-bank financial institution, he developed loan products for the previously and currently disadvantaged people to access affordable finance for SMEs, housing, and education. He has managed a multi-cultural headcount of circa 3,000 and established staff share ownership schemes.
He created his own investment banking firm, GFI in 2004 which today is represented in 35 countries including France, Germany, UK, and USA.
Mr. Evans is also an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (UK), awarded with Distinction in Law, further underscoring his deep expertise and commitment to excellence in the financial sector.
